ISS SSTV

Home

Received at my home QTH in Guildford UK. Using my homebrew J-Pole in the loft. Radio is the Yaesu FT-897 on 145800. No Doppler correction. The antenna is not really suited to this, but it is interesting to see how it behaves. Lower passes do better than overhad passes. Not too surprising as, as I understand it, the ISS antenna is vertically polarised. So it matches polarisation on low passes. On high passes the J-pole has a null overhead and the watertank in the loft pretty much blocks the signal to the west.

I run QSSTV on Linux Mint (also see here). It also runs on Windows and the Raspberry Pi, but I haven't tried it on those Operating Systems. I know virtually nothing about SSTV, so was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to set up. For events like this ARISS Humans in Space I like to just let things run and to check in after passes. The images on the page are uploaded here automatically within a few minutes after a pass.
